We are in our 20′s-30′s and are hosting a big xmas party where we want to have people participate in group types of activities.

We’re looking for Ice breakers, drinking games, group games/activities and anything that can be played pretty easily. We don’t necessarily want all dirty or suggestive games, but no one wants games for kids either. We are open minded as long as it involves groups, doesn’t require a lot of prep work and people will actually want to participate.

Thanks!

Okay i discovered this game last year and everyone i have played it with has absolutely loved it. The game is called “Apples to Apples”. It comes in a red box and can be found in the game isle at any k-mart, walmart or game store in the mall. It is so much fun when you play with large groups of people. At least four, but we have played with up to twelve. You might need a big table for that many.

Basically the game has green cards which are labled with adjetives, for example: Exciting, Dirty, Ugly, Hot, Deadly
the game also has red cards which are labled with nouns, for example: My personality, Postal workers, George Bush, Canadians, Bannanas, Spontaneous combustion, flying monkeys

Everyone is dealt seven red cards (nouns), they hold them in their hand and look at them all at once.
If it is your turn you pick up a green card (adjetive), you place it face up in the middle of the table. Say you picked “Dirty”
Everyone else plays a red card face down. They chose a card that they think you will think is dirty. You then pick up all the cards that were played and decide what is the dirtiest one. If someone did not have any thing in their hand that was dirty they might play a card that makes no sense at all like “Bannana” However that could still be misconstrued as dirt. lol You lay each card down in front of the group and everyone will get a really big laugh.
    “Dirty”
Examples of cards people might play:
    “Michael Jackson”
    “Lawyers”
    “My bathroom”
    “Bannana”
    “Mud”
    “Democrats”
    “Republicans”
Examples of cards people might play because they have nothing else:
    “Rolling the car”
    “HMOs”
    “Snakes”
    “Parenting”(could still be dirty)
    “Babies” (could still be dirty)
    “Reading a book”

First you choose the best answer. You might choose Michael Jackson, because that might be funny to you. Or you could go a completely different direction and choose Babies. What ever your choice there is no wrong answer. The key is for the other players to know your personality well enough to know what you may think is funny, amusing, or actually dirty. The goal is to get the judge to choose your card. if your card is chosen as first place you get a point.
The rules are better explained with several different ways to play in the game.
The game gets really funny and nobody usually takes offense.
My dad is a postal worker, and once when it was his turn he turned over the green card that said “Deadly” I had “Postal worker” in my hand played it. My dad thought it was hillarious! He chose my card as first place and i got a point.
This game is so much fun that when we have parties its all we play. We once played for 5 hours. The game generates conversation about the choices, and laughter about the answers. It can be played with any age group but it is best when played with adults. And the funny thing is we have had children join in and play, sometimes its even more humorous be cause they just don’t get the jokes. They laugh and ssmile accordingly when bannana is played for the word dirty, but they don’t actually get it.
Needless to say this game really livens the party. We play it at almost every function. It can last for hours, and through all the laughter no body really gets offended. And if they do they will get you back later in the game. Its just that great. Sorry this is so long. I hope i helped. By the way the game can be purchased for only 11.99. its pretty inexpensive.

If you search for bowtie christmas party games on google or yahoo you should get to a bowtieproducts site that will give you 4 new original games that will help make your nite fun.

Some of the games especially Sandys Christmas Carol game can be adjusted for nearly any age 8 and up.

For parties mixers like this work because they give folks something to do while they get warmed up to each other. if they want to talk, they can talk, but if conversatrion lags games like these take up the awkward silences that many of us dread.

Whats nice is that people don’t all have to be in it to enjoy it. Some can just help out if asked or enjoy the groans of the answer section.

If links work in the answer blocks here’s the link

there is also some party giving advice you may enjoy.

My wife and I made up the puzzles and many people really enjoy them.

I hope they work out well for you

Apples to Apples is great but in large groups it falls short, for 4 – 8 people it is awesome.

All add some trivia, it can be fun for adults and you can mix it into a drinking game
