My mom called today and told me that she is canceling Christmas at her house and not to come. She told me that she thought it was awful that I spend Sunday lunch and Wednesday dinner with my in laws and only see her 4-6 times a month. She is planning to mail checks for Christmas to my kids instead of spending time with them. She complained to me that my kids don’t even know her, which is untrue. My 17th birthday party falls around Christmas, and this year I would really like to do a “Nightmare Before Christmas Theme” but I’m having trouble coming up with ideas for activities and games. Last year some of the 8 and 9 year olds were making reference to the fact that Santa was not real – in front of the young children. How do we tactfully say that we would like to keep the mystery of Santa alive for the younger children without offending our coworkers (company party).
